Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP)

HIPs are registered health professionals, who have experience and training in evidence-based talking therapies and come from a variety of clinical backgrounds including:
  • Nursing
  • Social work
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Dapaanz (Drug and Alcohol Practitioners’ Association Aotearoa – New Zealand)
  • Psychology
  • Psychotherapy
  • NZAC registered counsellors (with Te Whatu ora HPCAA accreditation)

​Awhi Ora Community Support Workers


​The Awhi Ora workers:
  • Support people’s needs by focusing on their strengths, abilities and resources and enhancing these to achieve their goals.
  • Encourage and assist people and their whānau to access community-based resources.
  • Collaborate with the GP practice team to help people achieve positive wellbeing outcomes.
  • Must have, or be working towards, a Level 4, health and wellbeing certificate.

​Health Coach

Health Coaches come from a wide range of backgrounds, with a background in coaching people to achieve their goals – this could be in a health setting, however we are also looking for people with experience in sports/exercise, nutrition, wellbeing or other areas.

​To be a successful Health Coach, you need the drive to create new programmes for your community, and communication skills to connect with the people who come to your practice.
